Insurance
- Insurance coverage is only available for approved CINE productions with a Production Registration on file.
- Access to insurance is a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT. Privileges may be SUSPENDED or REVOKED at any time by the Department, if any of the CINE policies outlined in this document, the COI, or any other CINE safety document, are violated.
- No riders or outside production insurance is allowed on CINE productions. Only additional outside equipment rental insurance will be allowed for renting non-CINE equipment. The student is responsible for any non-CINE equipment rental insurance and CINE is not responsible for any payment or support.
- Productions must apply for Insurance in order to be covered, registered productions are not automatically covered by insurance.
- Obtaining a Certificate of Insurance (COI) allows students to demonstrate coverage to location owners, permitting agencies and rental houses. Providing vendors and locations with individual certificates of insurance simply reassures film participants that their exposure to losses is limited to a deductible.
- In general, students are individually responsible for any bodily injury or illness incurred or personal property loss or damage while attending the University.
- Anyone present on the production must complete a Release of Liability.
- A Student Production Verification Letter is only required for Rented Non-CINE equipment and for some permit offices. It can be acquired by completing a Request for Certificate of Insurance.
- Additionally Insured is only needed when another person or another group needs to be insured on the same COI. This is not a spot to add multiple locations. If you need multiple locations insured please submit multiple COIs.
- Insurance and approval is required for every location that is going to be filmed at. For CNF, a COI and location permission must be obtained for any location known in advance to the filming dates.
Application for Insurance is for graded class assigned CINE Student productions to grant access to CSULB and CINE Equipment and Production insurance. Any production that is not granted a Certificate of Insurance (COI) by the CINE Production Office is not covered by insurance, and therefore not an approved CINE film and not allowed access to CINE resources.
Applicants requesting insurance must be enrolled in the class the project is assigned for.
CINE Production Office does not acquire permits or outside equipment rentals on your behalf. Students must contact permit offices, location owners, rental houses, etc., on their own. If assistance is needed, please contact your professor first, then contact the CINE Production office if further assistance is needed.
