CSULB Shark Lab Calms Fear of Leopard Sharks Near Public Beach

Published July 7, 2022

CSULB Shark Lab Director, Chris Lowe, appeared on KSBY San Luis Obispo and Fox 26 News to soothe local concerns generated by a Tik-Tok video of leopard sharks close to the beach at Pirate's Cove during the July 4 holiday. Professor Lowe explained that pregnant leopard shark females may be closer to shore in warmer waters to feed on small animals and speed up their pregnancies. He also advised beach goers not to disturb the sharks and to take advantage of viewing them in their natural habitat.
