Shyamala Moorty
Shyamala Moorty is teaching Dance Comp in the Fall of 2021.
Shyamala Moorty’s interdisciplinary performance work draws on contemporary Indian dance, theater, multimedia, and community engagement. Shyamala is a founding member of the Post Natyam Collective, a transnational, web-based coalition of dance artists whose work triangulates between art-making, activism, and theory; and the Dancing Storytellers, whose innovative performances of South Asian stories, dance and music are ideal for youth and families. Her solo performance work has been described as “that special kind of healing that art can accomplish” -Dr. Ketu Katrak in the book Contemporary Indian Dance. She has also performed with Great Leap, TeAda Productions, The Rangoli Foundation, and as a soloist and principal dancer for the AMAN International Folk Dance and Music Ensemble. With an MFA in Dance from UCLA, she has taught yoga, pilates, dance technique, and choreography at colleges across Southern CA including Cal Poly Pomona and UCLA. Her performance work has toured in Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, India, the U.K., and the U.S.
