Civil engineers are those professionals responsible for designing and building various projects; harbors, buildings, dams, airports, bridges, water supply and waste disposal systems and other structures. Areas of specialization include: environmental engineering, water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering and structural engineering. These areas reflect a foundation in the principles of engineering analysis, planning and design in transportation systems, environmental systems, geotechnical engineering, water resources engineering, materials for construction and urban engineering, among others.
