Data Security Breach at Equifax and What to Do

As recently reported in the media, cyber criminals have successfully gained access to sensitive information at Equifax, one of the three major credit-reporting firms in the nation.

Equifax and other credit bureaus collect personal and financial data for millions of consumers and businesses worldwide. For further information about the data breach, visit the Federal Trade Commission Equifax Data Breach web page.

This security compromise will likely result in increased email phishing attempts designed to trick us into divulging university or personal email credentials (i.e., login IDs and passwords). We urge you to be cautious, and never click unknown links in emails you receive. Never provide your personal or financial information to anyone who solicits this information by phone or email. Please visit the campus phishing reports page to confirm current known phishing attempts. You may also forward suspicious email to alert@csulb.edu.

Student Success Center Groundbreaking Ceremony
Friday, September 29, 2017

Please join the campus for the Construction Groundbreaking Ceremony of the new Student Success Center (PH2 Renovation) on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the exterior quad located between the PH2 and PH1 buildings.

The Peterson Hall 2 Renovation Project will provide a “Student Success Center,” a consolidated home for multiple campus organizations that primarily help disadvantaged and struggling students stay in school and attain their degrees. The renovation project will also provide new academic labs and studio spaces for various programs. An existing exterior area on the south side of the building will be turned into a thriving outdoor plaza with abundant seating and Wi-Fi. The building will also have a new student lounge on the second floor with a view of the adjacent quad. The project will result in a seismically safe, ADA compliant, and air-conditioned facility. While all major systems of the building will be replaced the shell of the building will be maintained to reduce waste. This renovation will achieve US Green Building Council’s prestigious LEED Gold certification for its sustainable design elements.

Please join us to celebrate this exciting event. Please direct any inquiries regarding this event to Design and Construction Services, ext. 5-4175. Light refreshments will be served.

Introducing the Faculty Research Experience and Expertise (FREE) Database

Through a collaborative effort of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) and the Division of Information Technology, the new CSULB Faculty Research Experience and Expertise (FREE) Database is now available to the campus community.

The FREE database is a web-based information system that makes it easy for faculty, staff, students and the general public to search or browse faculty research interests and expertise. The FREE database will showcase the wide array of our faculty research expertise, foster research collaborations, and increase the public’s accessibility to our in-house experts. It will also help the campus community and the general public understand the research activities and projects conducted by our faculty. The database will enable business, industry, government, and media representatives to locate our researchers, assist our students in their search for faculty research mentors, and facilitate the connection with potential research sponsors.

To use the FREE database, visit /FREE. For further information, please contact ORSP at ext. 5-8147 or send an email to ORSP.

Thank you to all who helped preview the FREE database and provided comments and suggestions.
