Brotman Hall Drive (from Beach Drive north to Brotman Hall) will be closed Saturday, June 2 through Sunday, June 10 as part of a campus-wide accessibility upgrade. This closure will allow the Design and Construction team to improve accessibility of curb ramps and the crosswalk at this intersection. We will be detouring all vehicular traffic to Parking Lot E2 through Merriam Way. Informational and directional signage will be posted.

CSULB is Receiving Two Best Practice Awards at the
California Higher Education Sustainability Conference

California State University, Long Beach has been announced as a two-time winner in the 2018 Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Best Practice Awards Competition, and will be officially recognized at the annual California Higher Education Sustainability Conference (CHESC) this July. The university will receive a Best Practice Award in the “renewable energy” category for our new 4.75 Mega-Watt Solar Energy Project. This solar energy installation, installed last summer in Parking Lots G6-9 and E8, is the largest in the CSU system as well as the largest in the city of Long Beach. The system is capable of providing up to one-third of the campus’ peak daily load, thereby reducing the amount of electricity that must be purchased from the energy grid and shrinking the campus’ carbon footprint.

The university is also this year’s Best Practice Award winner in the “building-level energy efficiency” category for the Walter Pyramid LED Lighting Upgrade Project. This project involved replacing the Pyramid’s older, inefficient lighting system with a new system featuring fully dimmable sports LED lighting, digital controls, changeable color LEDs for special effects, and a range of other energy-saving features. These upgrades are expected to save the university approximately $48,000 per year in energy costs.
