Cal State Long Beach ranks high in graduating Hispanic students
Cal State Long Beach is again a national leader in the number of degrees awarded to Hispanic students according to new rankings published in Hispanic Outlook on Education magazine.
The campus has the 14th-largest Hispanic enrollment in the country among four-year institutions, and ranks No. 16 for degrees earned by Hispanics.
Hispanic Outlook also noted a number of individual programs where Cal State Long Beach excels in awarding degrees to Hispanic students:
No. 1 in Family and Consumer Sciences/Human Sciences
No. 3 in Communication and Media Studies
No. 3 in English Language and Literature/Letters
No. 3 in Philosophy and Religious Studies
No. 5 in Business Administration Management and Operations
No. 7 in Parks Recreation Leisure and Fitness Studies
No. 8 in Social Sciences
No. 9 in Cultural Ethnic Minority Gender and Group Studies
No. 10 in Music
Cal State Long Beach also ranked third in the nation for the number of undergraduate physics degrees awarded to Hispanics, according to The American Physical Society.
As of the 2018-19 academic year, 42 percent of undergraduate students here identified as Hispanic, a testament of the school’s dedication to diversity and inclusivity.
“These rankings demonstrate our university’s commitment not only to Latinx students, but to students of all backgrounds. We strive to create a vibrant, inclusive environment in which all students can find success,” said President Jane Close Conoley. “It is central to who we are and we are so pleased that the data illustrate our dedication.”
Hispanic Outlook’s rankings are based on 2016-17 statistics from the U.S. Department of Education, the most recent academic year for which data are available.
