Wheeled Pathways
You may notice new wheel decals on North campus that allow bicycles, skateboards and other non-motorized coasting devices to navigate the campus using shared, designated pathways. We worked with students to help design wheel pathways that make sense to promote responsible use of alternative transportation methods, increase safety and encourage healthy exercise.
We are currently working to expand onto South campus and expect to announce additional wheeled pathways in Spring 2020. Bicycles and non-motorized coasting devices must always yield to pedestrians and are prohibited in the designated pedestrian-only zones. See the Campus Regulations related to Transportation for more detail.
Building Marshals Needed
The CSULB Building Marshal Program is a critical component of our Emergency Preparedness, Operations, and Recovery Plan. Building Marshals are campus employees who work in regularly occupied buildings and volunteer to perform essential activities, such as building evacuations, during a campus emergency or drill. New Building Marshals attend an initial half-day training to prepare them for their role. The next trainings will be held on September 26 and October 2. To sign up to become a Building Marshal please visit the UPD website.

Parking Program Changes Fall 2019
Throughout spring of 2019, Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) shared its financial realities with the campus through a series of “Parking Road Show” presentations. At that time, PTS discussed how the university’s transportation budget has been subsidizing a wide variety of programs that go beyond maintaining parking lots and structures such as the Long Beach Transit TAP program, campus shuttles, EV chargers and other sustainable transportation initiatives. PTS also discussed the importance of creating a self-sustaining financial model that will allow it to maintain these important programs for students, faculty and staff in the future. A thorough and thoughtful planning process led to the introduction of a modified fee schedule across all of our transportation programs instead of a significant fee increase to a single program, which will minimize the impact to any one group of users. We understand these changes may create challenges, especially for students. In response to these concerns, a hardship fee waiver process is being developed for the Long Beach Transit and shuttle programs. The fee waiver will be available to students in need prior to the fall semester.
PTS will also be offering some new services in addition to the program changes and encourages all campus constituents to familiarize themselves with the items below prior to their implementation this fall. View a brief summary of all parking program changes for fall 2019 at the website provided. The effective dates of the changes vary by program and can be found on the PTS website.
