Lisa Johnson
Lisa Johnson is a Lecturer CSULB Dance, where she began teaching in 2006. Ms. Johnson currently teaches ballet technique for dance majors, pointe, beginning and intermediate ballet for non-dance majors, Body Placement and Pilates I and II, as well as Intro to Ballet for non-dance majors.
Ms. Johnson studied classical ballet under scholarship at the Marin Ballet, Cleveland Ballet, School of American Ballet and the National Ballet School, Toronto. She was awarded first place in the Marguerite A. Hoffman competition at UCLA and was a semi-finalist competitor in the Prix de Lausanne, Switzerland as part of the six-member American team. She danced professionally with the Los Angeles Classical Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Feld Ballets/NY, Ballet Chicago and Hamburg Ballet in Germany, where she created new works with artistic director John Neumeier and choreographer Mats Ek, among others. Additionally, she appeared as principal guest artist with the Santa Barbara Ballet, Ballet Pacifica and Francisco Martinez Dancetheatre.
Ms. Johnson has taught at many conservatories and educational institutions across Southern California, including: The Orange County School of Arts Classical and Contemporary Conservatory; California State University, Fullerton; The Wooden Floor (St. Joseph Ballet); Long Beach Ballet Arts Center; Southland Ballet Academy; Ballet Pacifica Academy; and the Maple Conservatory of Dance. She has taught in such prestigious summer programs as The Joffrey Ballet’s young dancer program.
In 2015, Ms. Johnson received her Pilates Certification from Body Arts and Sciences International (BASI), specializing in Pilates for dance. She is passionate about the intersection between body conditioning and dance technique, and inspired by the impressive strides students can make when embodying information, both scientific and artistic, during their time at CSULB.
