Chris Lowe, professor in the Department of Biology and director of the Shark Lab at Cal State Long Beach commented in the Los Angeles Times and KCAL news about new research indicating white sharks may be confused by LED lights attached to the bottom of surfboards, possibly making surfers safer from attacks. Lowe said surfers should still be cautious even if using this technology since white sharks have other methods, including smell and feel, to seek out prey.
