Professor reveals how personal information is gathered in public
Published August 1, 2024
Gwen Shaffer, a professor in the Department of Journalism at Cal State Long Beach, spoke with the Los Angeles Times during one of her "data walks" in Long Beach. The walks are a way to point out the many ways personal data are gathered in public areas. Professor Shaffer is working with the city to inform people of information-gathering through a digital rights platform supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. The story, and Shaffer's work, was also picked up and covered by Spectrum News1 in an in-depth interview with the reporter.
