Director Hopes New Rules Could Help Undocumented Students Prepare for College

Rafael Topete, director of TRiO and migrant programs at Cal State Long Beach was quoted in Inside Higher Ed about how revising federal TRIO rules could allow Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and other undocumented students, take advantage of the college preparation programs currently only eligible to U.S. citizens. The three programs making up TRiO - Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Student Support Service - help students prepare and succeed in college. According to the article, "California received a waiver this academic year to allow undocumented students to access TRIO services on a trial basis."
