CSULB Ranked Among Washington Monthly’s "Best Bang for the Buck" Colleges
California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) has been named as a "Best Bang for the Buck" college by Washington Monthly. This marks the third consecutive year that CSULB has been part of Washington Monthly’s "Best Bank for the Buck" rankings.
"The latest Washington Monthly rankings reinforce to students and their families that CSULB offers an excellent combination of quality, value and access," said CSULB President Jane Close Conoley. "Our faculty and staff’s focus on ensuring student achievement makes The Beach an amazing place to pursue a university education."
To compile their ratings, Washington Monthly used measures including student loan default rate, graduation rate and graduation rate performance.
Over the past decade, CSULB has seen an unprecedented increase in graduation rates which have climbed more than 20 percent to all-time highs. CSULB’s graduation rate is approximately 18 percent above the most recently published national average for large, public master’s institutions.
In the area of student loans, default rates for CSULB students are well below national public four-year rates and the number of students who take on loans is less than half that of both the state and national average at public four-year universities.
Other measures Washington Monthly used to develop rankings include net price of attendance and percentage of Pell Grant students. CSULB’s mission is to provide highly valued educational opportunities to a diverse student population, and more than half of all CSULB undergraduate students are Pell Grant recipients.
