MAPS Peer Mentor Program

MAPS Peer Mentors take a coaching approach to mentoring primarily serve Beach Academy, Exploratory (Undecided) Beach XP, First-Time First Year (Freshman), and Second Year (Sophomore) students.

Often times, what happens outside of the classroom has the largest impact on what happens inside the classroom.  In this way, we focus on those skills that build confidence and self-efficacy in, not just being a good student at The Beach, but a good member of society.  We coordinate with other Academic Support resources on campus like The Learning Center and the University Writing Center to ensure holistic approach to supporting students.

MAPS Peer Mentors are available to any CSULB student looking for support!

Beach Academy

Every member of Beach Academy is assigned a Peer Mentor for their entire first year. You can meet with them once week, once a month, or as needed. Mentoring is provided based on goals and curricular experience - meaning whatever you want to talk about that's relevant and what most first year students are encountering given the time of the semester.

Beach XP

MAPS Peer Mentors are assigned to the 6 sections of Exploratory (Undecided) Beach XP cohorts for Fall 2024.  You can catch your Peer Mentor on the Activity Day of the following courses:

Second Year (Sophomore) Mentoring Program (SMP)

The second year of college is often regarded as your TRUE first year as the support programs you had in your previous year drops dramatically.  The responsibility really does rest with you to take charge of your college experience. The SMP will focus on refining your critical thinking and decision making skills; your niche at CSULB and your college student self; and wellness and success during your second year.  Complete this form if you are interested and one of our Peer Mentors will reach out to you.
