Admit yield | A percentage equal to the total number of enrolled students divided by the total number of students admitted. |
Applicant yield | A percentage equal to total number of students enrolled divided by the total number of students admitted. |
Associate degree for transfer (ADT) | An associate degree for transfer (ADT) is a degree offered through the California community colleges that aligns closely with requirements at CSU (and other institutions), making it easier for students to move from a community college to a four-year institution. This framework was established by California Senate Bill (SB) 1440 and is sometimes referred to as AB 1440. |
Census | Census is the date at which official enrollment counts are taken; in summer, fall, and spring semesters it is at the end of fourth week of instruction. |
Continuing student | A student who is not new to the institution and who had units attempted during the prior term of the regular sessions. |
Delivery method | Location from which the course is taught, either on-site (with students physically present on campus) or online (via a web-based platform). |
Employee class | The nature of the faculty/staff member’s appointment per their contract, which includes acting appointments, long term contracts, emergency hires and others. |
Fill Rate | Seats taken as percentage of enrollment capacity. |
First generation | A student with parents who both neither attended nor graduated from college (and in the case of a student with one parent, that parent neither attended (nor graduated)) from college. |
First time freshmen (FTF) | A student who has no prior postsecondary experience and is attending a CSU for the first time at the undergraduate level. The definition of first-time allows for students to still be classified as first-time if they have earned college units prior to matriculation. |
Funding | Source of funding for the position; for example, general fund, grants or other kinds of budget allocations. |
Full time equivalent (FTE) STUDENT | Term FTE STUDENTs for undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students is the sum of total semester or quarter term credit units attempted divided by 15. Term FTE students for graduate students (seeking a master’s or doctoral degree) is the sum of total semester or quarter term credit units attempted divided by 12. |
General education | General Education courses are not required for a student’s program, but count toward the undergraduate breadth requirement. These courses encompass a multitude of fields to expose students to a variety of disciplines. |
Graduation rate | The cumulative number of students who graduated within a designated period of time, divided by the total number of students who entered in a given term. For example, 4-year graduation rate is the percentage of entering students who earned a degree within 4 years (including the summer of 5th year). |
Headcount | The number of students, faculty or other group that meet a given criteria. |
International or Visa non-US student | International students are non-immigrant visitors who come to the United States temporarily to take classes. A non-immigrant visitor is someone who intends to stay in the US temporarily does not have US citizenship or legal permanent resident status (a "green card"). |
New student | A student attending CSU campus for the first time, either as a freshmen, transfer, graduate, or post-baccalaureate student. |
Pay status | Whether faculty/staff is actively working within the university or on leave, and the nature of their leave if applicable; independent of Tenure. |
Pell grant eligibility | Pell grants are awarded to students with incomes below a certain level; eligibility for a Pell grant is traditionally established in the first term and often used as an indicator of financial need. |
Persistence Rate | The percentage of students who continue to study at CSULB from one term to the next, usually from fall to fall but the rate may be calculated between any two terms. (Note, other institutions may employ similar, but not identical, uses of this term.) |
Post bac or post-baccalaureate student | A student who already holds a baccalaureate degree, or its equivalent, and is seeking an additional credential or certificate. |
Rank | The position held by the faculty or staff member linked to their tenure/tenure-track status. For example, Full, Associate, and Assistant Professors are tenured or on track to tenure, while Lecturers (including categories A-D) are not on a tenure-track. |
Readiness or Remedial Courses | Discontinued after Spring 2019, but indicates if a course was intended to prepare for college level Math and English work (including: Composition I, Elementary Algebra/Geometry, Basic Intermediate Algebra, and Enhanced Intermediate Algebra). |
Retention rate | The percentage of students who return to CSULB from one term to the next or have earned a degree in that time, usually from fall to fall but the rate may be calculated between any two terms. It is the sum of the persistence and graduation rate. (Note, other institutions may employ similar, but not identical, uses of this term.) |
Returning student | A former student returning after a leave of absence of one or more regular terms who had no units attempted elsewhere during the absence from the campus. |
Tenure | Whether the faculty member has, or is on a path to, a permanent position within the university. |
Tenure Density | Tenure density is defined as tenure/tenure track faculty full-time equivalent faculty (FTEF) as a percent of total lecturer and tenure/tenure track full-time equivalent faculty (FTEF). |
Transfer student | A student entering CSULB for the first time, but are known to have previously attended a postsecondary institution at the same level (e.g., undergraduate, graduate). |
Transitory student | Non-degree seeking students who are enrolled at other institutions while simultaneously taking courses at CSU campus. |
Under-represented minority (URM) | Students identified as African American, American Indian, or Hispanic. |
