Beach Pride

The "Go Beach!" slogan rose to prominence during President Robert Maxson's tenure in the 1990s, as he often incorporated the phrase into his campus speeches, fostering a sense of school spirit and unity.  

Today, this rallying cry echoes through athletics events and campus celebrations. Jane Close Conoley, the seventh president of Cal State Long Beach and the first woman to serve in this role in a non-interim capacity, continues the “Go Beach!” tradition. 

Through the shared efforts of faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends, The Beach has earned recognition as a top U.S. university. Most recently, it was ranked No. 1 among national universities in promoting social mobility and one of the “Best Colleges in America,” earning five out of five stars. 

In 2024, Cal State Long Beach concluded its most ambitious fundraising effort, the No Barriers campaign, which raised more than $313 million to create a national model for student achievement, shape California's future workforce and advance the public good.
