Glossary
This glossary will help clear the air on any confusion regarding terms or phrases.
- Additionally Insured: Any additional information that a rental house or permitting office may ask for prior to receiving equipment or permits.
- Campus Events Office (CEO): Office one must contact and get approval from if one wants to film on-campus.
- Certificate of Insurance (COI): Certificate giving either a location or rented equipment insurance.
- CINE Sound Stage Reservation Form: a form used by faculty and registered student productions to reserve the CINE Sound Stage (UTC-123). It details the studio policies and any equipment provided within.
- College of the Arts (COTA): University department under CSULB that encompasses all departments pertaining to the arts, including the Film and Electronic Arts department.
- Computer Lab Use Agreement Form: An agreement allowing students to use the CINE computer labs.
- Crew List: A list that contains all cast and crew members names and contacts. This can also be used to track forms required for set (i.e. Safety test, Release of Liability) and dietary restrictions.
- CSULB Green Seal: Seal granted to student film productions that meet or exceed the CSULB Green Filmmaking checklist.
- DocuSign: Online website that facilitates electronic signatures on documents. This is an alternative for getting a wet signature.
- EMA Green Seal: An industry recognized program honoring progress in sustainable production. Seal granted to student film productions that meet or exceed the PEACHy Green Filmmaking checklist.
- Green Filmmaking: A method of filmmaking in a sustainable way across all aspects of the production process. This can include things like reducing waste on set or even incorporating sustainability into the narrative.
- In-Class Assignments: Any and all filming done in-class. No filming is done outside of class time.
- Insurance Exclusion: Prohibited items excluded from the CINE insurance coverage.
- Lecture (Course Type): Lecture courses do not use CINE equipment or additional on-campus facilities.
- Location Agreement: A document stating that the production and the location have agreed on filming dates, times, and rates.
- Location Inspection: An inspection of the location prior to filming. This allows for the production to see the current condition of the location prior to filming.
- Location Release: A release stating that the production has paid and fixed everything. Signing this releases the production of the agreement that was signed before.
- Lost or Stolen Property Report: Report that must be submitted to the CINE Department's Production and Technical Safety Supervisor within three (3) working days if an equipment item is considered LOST.
- Night Filming: Any filming that is done between the hours of 10pm and 7am (On-Campus). Please check with the city prior to filming to find their hours filming isn't allowed. Filming in the dark is also considered night filming.
- Off-Campus Filming: Any filming done not on the CSULB Campus. Location Insurance will need to be requested.
- On-Campus Filming: Any filming done on the CSULB Campus. A Request for On-Campus Film Permit will need to be requested.
- Permit: Documentation stating that the production is able to film at their given location. Process for On-Campus vs Off-Campus is different.
- Permit Office: City-specific offices that deal with information and applicants regarding permits for off-campus shoots.
- Personal Appearance Release: A waiver that states that the production is allowed to photograph the talent on screen.
- Post Production (Course Type): Post Production courses use CINE editing facilities.
- PowerForm: A self-service envelope accessed by a URL link in Docusign that allows one to fill out documents, add attachments, and sign forms online.
- Production (Course Type): Production courses involve use of CINE equipment and facilities in and/or out-of class time.
- Production Calendar: Calendar that shows all productions going out in a given semester.
- Production Folder: Folders on Sharepoint that each registered production is given for easy and organized production file collection. These folders can be viewed by their professor and the production office.
- Production ID: An ID given to each production to signify class, section and specific project.
- Production Registration: A document signifying that the project is approved by one's professor and does not include any insurance exclusions.
- Production Office: Office that files and manages productions. Oversees safety and progression of CINE registered productions.
- Release of Liability: A waiver stating that a production will not be held liable for any bodily injuries that happen on set. If an individual gets hurt on set, they must use their own insurance and cannot sue. Must be done prior to entering set.
- Safety Bulletin: Safety guidelines created by the Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee for use by the motion picture and television industry.
- Safety Plan: A plan created to ensure that all safety concerns are mitigated. This includes location, insurance, approvals and COVID-19.
- Safety Test: A test that goes over one's safety on set. A passing grade is required to be on set.
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS): A safety, material, or product safety data sheet is a document that lists information regarding occupational safety and health of various substances and products used in the CINE department.
- SharePoint: Site in which CINE files and documents live. Here, CSULB students and faculty can find safety, equipment, facility, and production documents, along with Class Folders and Greenlight Production spreadsheets.
- Single Sign-On (SSO): SSO is a digital authentication service that permits users with log-in credentials to access multiple applications. All CSULB students and faculty can use SSO to access their school applications.
- Student Enrollment Verification Letter: A letter verifying that a student is enrolled in the university. May be asked for by entities that offer student discounts.
- Student Equipment Use Agreement Form: An agreement allowing students to use CINE equipment.
- Student Production Verification Letter: Once a student has requested a COI they can obtain a production insurance approval letter from the CINE Production Office, which is given to rental houses and/or permitting offices in order to verify the student's enrollment at CSULB.
