Student Advising Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:  

  •   Identify their Academic Advisor 

  •   Access the Academic Requirements Report (degree audit) and identify the six   graduation requirement areas  

  •   Review the academic roadmap with their team of advisors  

  •   Access, navigate, and utilize the information and tools located in the Student Center   (MyCSULB) and Enrollment Services website  

  •   Locate and utilize university resources  

  •   Make connections between how course curricula prepare them for future career   goals and to become lifelong learners   

Students will be able to:  

  •   Diagram an educational plan for their three-year trajectory at CSULB by seeking advisement on a regular basis   

  •   List the six graduation requirements and identify a timeline for the completion of each requirement   

  •   Asses their own knowledge of how a liberal arts education prepares them for a holistic understanding of their world, and how that produces critical thinking skills  

  •   Explore major interests, skills, and abilities in collaboration with advisors, faculty, and other student support staff  

  •   Establish meaningful connections with their major department faculty and staff  

  •   Determine academic standing and progress toward degree using the Academic       Requirements Report (ARR)  

  •   Participate in an interactive workshop, in partnership with the Career Development  Center, to create an aspirational resume  

Students will be able to:  

  •   Participate in experiential learning through internships, volunteer work,or job p  

  •   Utilize campus resources such as the Career Development Center to explore future educational and professional goals, and investigate paths to achieve those goals  

  •   Identify and meet with faculty members in student’s chosen academic/career filed to discuss post-graduation goals and potential letters of recommendations  

  •   Differentiate between Commencement and the degree award process  

  •   Complete the application for award of degree  

  •   Confirm, with the major academic advisor and the Academic Requirements Report (degree audit), that all graduation requirements are complete or will be complete by the student’s expected graduation date  

 

For upper division transfer students:  

  •   Identify their major academic advisor  

  •   Access the Academic Requirements Report (degree audit), understand the six graduation requirement areas, and identify a timeline for the completion of each requirement  

  •   Access, navigate, and utilize the information and tools located in the Student Center of MyCSULB  

  •   Identify and utilize resources 

Students will be able to:  

  •   Confirm with the Academic Requirements Report (degree audit) that all graduate requirements are complete or will be complete by the student’s expected graduation date  

  •   Articulate a post-graduation plan  

  •   Meet with faculty members identified during junior year to request letters of recommendation  

  •   Utilize Career Development Center to prepare for graduate school applications and/or applying for career opportunities  

  •   Adhere to established deadlines for applying to graduate school (if applicable)  

  •   Connect with Alumni Relations
