CSULB Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Student Chapter
Here at CSULB, we are proud to have an active and supportive HFES Student Chapter that contributes greatly to academic and professional development. The HFES Student Chapter at California State University, Long Beach is currently comprised of approximately 20 members, many of whom are graduate students in the Master of Science in Psychology, Option in Human Factors program. The student chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society at California State University, Long Beach is dedicated to promoting the understanding and use of human factors both academically and professionally. The student chapter organizes and participates in various activities during the year, always with this goal in mind. As of September 2024, the chapter has been awarded The Gold Chapter Award by the National Human Factors and Ergonomics Society a total of 18 times.
Join Our Chapter
While students are free to attend any of our meetings without any requirements, it is encouraged that students officially join HFES to receive all the benefits our chapter and the organization as a whole can provide. Yearly fees for students are only $10 and $35 for non-students. Information about joining can be found at the National HFES site or by contacting our chapter’s email at lbhfes@gmail.com.
Members of HFES gain access to a host of benefits ranging from HFES Journal access, special conference opportunities, unique colloquiums from HFES professionals, and social events.
Our chapter coordinates research projects for both events held by our chapter individually and the national chapter.
Annual CSULB HFES Conference
Every spring semester, our chapter hosts an annual CSULB HFES Conference to highlight the research in our labs from undergraduate and graduate students. March 2025 marks the 20th annual conference! Before the school year started, we held our first social of the year at Ma ‘n Pa Grocery! New and returning members were able to catch up about their summer vacations or internships. Games were also played while enjoying breakfast. Thank you to our MSHF alumni that were able to attend!
On October 18 was the Cedars-Sinai Simulation Center Tour, where we had the wonderful opportunity to experience firsthand the incredible advancements that Cedars-Sinai is currently using to train residents, including cutting-edge medical simulation technologies and innovative training rooms. It was a unique way to see how the Human Factors field connects to real-world simulation tests, in medical training, and the significant changes that have occurred over the years. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend!!
In September, our student chapter had a great time at the Annual HFES ASPIRE! We had the honor of receiving the gold award for our student chapter again this year! It was a great experience to explore the different fields in human factors and network with professionals and fellow students. We also had a blast getting to know one of our fellow student chapters, SJSU. New friendships were formed and we look forward to seeing them again in the future.
