The Medieval and Renaissance Student Association (MaRSA) is sponsored by CSULB's Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Working with the Directors of the Center, this group is active in creating a community of student scholars on campus and creating opportunities for the professionalization of those students. In every semester, MaRSA holds regular reading groups on texts not covered by our course offerings, Middle and Old English study and translation groups for students to further their translation skills in these languages, and special events, such as trips to the rare books rooms of CSULB, The Getty Research Institute, or The Huntington Library. MaRSA also holds regular social events such as trips to the Renaissance Faire, movie nights, and medieval-themed game events.
MaRSA also hosts Graduate Student Symposia for students to present their research to other graduate scholars from CSULB and the surrounding areas. MaRSA members use this experience, combined with CV and abstract writing workshops held by the Center, to prepare for other graduate and professional-level academic conferences, both local and national.
