Departmental Style Guides
REQUIRED DEPARTMENTAL STYLE MANUAL OR JOURNAL CITATION METHOD
The University Style and Format Guidelines for Theses, Project Reports, and Dissertations ALWAYS take precedence over a departmental required style guide or journal citation method, if conflicts arise concerning format.
Click on the link below to access the official style manuals or journal citation methods list on file with the Thesis and Dissertation Office as the required style for your department. Some departments may not have submitted a particular style. If so, contact your department's Graduate Advisor, or your Committee Chair, for information on which style guide you should follow.
The Thesis and Dissertation Office will always evaluate style and format against the most recent edition of the official style guide required. It is the responsibility of the student to locate a copy of the most recent edition. Please verify the edition with the Thesis and Dissertation Office if you are unsure.
Most of the major guides can be found in a print form through the University Library. The journal or publication style guide may be found online (be careful to follow only the official online website). Generally, a keyword search through a major search engine will be enough to pick up the link for the style guide or journal citation method.
Be careful when choosing a style source; citation builders, managers, and some online secondary sources have been found to be inaccurate. It is the student's responsibility to proof (edit) any citations generated by a citation builder or formed by the student with the help of secondary sources for accuracy according to the official style guide.
