Ashley Magaña

What fears or anxieties did you have about going to college?

I was really anxious about there being so many students surrounding me that I didn't know. I was nervous about people coming in the semester with already established groups. Since I transferred into CSULB during the spring, I knew that was going to be the case.

Seek advice and ask questions. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Don't wait for opportunities to feel right. Always go for it because the worst they can say is no, but if you let it pass you by, you never know what door could have opened because of it. Own being a first gen because there are so many benefits that come with it. Always remember that even though we feel the pressure of working hard at every moment, it's okay to have fun. Your mental health is important.
