The OUTBAC is a team-building challenge course located on the California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) campus. It provides experiential learning opportunities through structured activities that promote teamwork, communication, leadership, and personal growth. Activities are designed for various groups, such as businesses, student organizations, sports teams, and more.

We offer three activity levels to suit different group needs and abilities:

  • Low: Ground activities with minimal physical effort, including walking and no elevation.
  • Medium: Ground activities with elevation up to 2 feet, involving balancing and swinging elements.
  • Hard: Activities that involve climbing structures and supporting others' weight, requiring more physical effort.

Yes! The OUTBAC is open to external clients. The updated reservation process allows for professional groups and organizations to book team-building sessions. This includes a streamlined process for bookings, contracts, and client interaction.

The OUTBAC can accommodate small and large groups. Specific group size recommendations may vary depending on the program and activity levels selected. Contact us at ross.garner@csulb.edu to discuss your group’s needs.

The OUTBAC is designed for participants aged 9 and older, making it suitable for youth groups, schools, and family programs in addition to adult teams. Please contact us to discuss the best options for younger participants.

Clients must complete specific documentation, including booking forms, contracts, and safety agreements. All materials align with industry standards to ensure a safe and organized experience.

 

The OUTBAC adheres to the latest Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) standards. This ensures the highest levels of safety, operational efficiency, and facilitation excellence.

Facilitation is managed by trained staff, including student assistants who undergo a rigorous apprentice certification process. This certification ensures they are equipped to deliver high-quality programs aligned with ACCT standards.

Yes! Students who successfully complete the REC 201 course are eligible for an internal apprentice certification, which can lead to employment opportunities at the OUTBAC. These roles provide practical experience and enhance students' resumes.

The facility continues to grow under the guidance of the new OUTBAC Manager. Updates include improved processes for external clients, enhancements to safety protocols, and the development of on-campus employment opportunities for CSULB students.
