Inclusive Excellence at CSULB

Background

To be a national model of inclusive excellence requires a paradigm shift in thought and action about equity, diversity, learning and community success. While our university has been engaged in significant ongoing efforts to move from our historical roots, we need to take certain steps. These include identifying and examining existing mindsets, norms and regulations that serve as catalysts.

Vision

The work of the President’s Commission on Inclusive Excellence will enable our university to offer every campus community member a fair opportunity to excel; to transcend ourselves and embed the values of our many communities in the fiber of our organizations.

Mission

Every campus constituency:

• Understands and values the cultural assets that all of us bring to educational experiences;
• Embraces and participates in policies of institutional change and continuous improvement to better meet the needs of everyone in our learning community;
• Build high-quality learning opportunities by ensuring equitable access to effective educational practices;
• Maintains a welcoming and empowering campus climate for all students, faculty members, staff and alumni.
