New Faculty Learning Community: DEIA Excellence in the Beach Classroom

In June 2023, the California State University (CSU) Chancellor’s Office released a report regarding the persistent decline in Black student enrollment and persistence across the CSU system and urged its 23 campuses to take broad and bold action work to promote Black Student Success (BSS) and enhance Black excellence. The DEIA Excellence in the Beach Classroom Faculty Learning Community (FLC) is one of four initiatives being implemented at CSULB in response to this call to action.

Equipping faculty for a culturally responsive pedagogy and inviting faculty to examine themselves, through viewing disaggregated data and reflecting on their teaching strategies and practices is important to shift the institutional culture. Faculty participants in this Learning Community will be more prepared to develop and implement inclusive and culturally relevant curricula in the classroom and foster high-impact practices that will facilitate positive learning experiences for Black students.

Hosted by the Faculty Center, CSULB encourages ALL faculty to consider applying for the new Faculty Learning Community: DEIA Excellence in the Beach Classroom.
