California State University, Long Beach is proud to announce Keila Tupua will serve as the new Associate Director of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) initiatives.

Under her leadership and the leadership of Professor/Department Chair of Asian and Asian American Studies, Dr. Barbara Kim, and Assistant Director of the Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi Resource Center, Shannyn Sayula, Tupua will collaborate with Beach faculty, staff, and administrators to focus on student success, refine programs, and identify areas for improvement. Additionally, Tupua will be a key partner to enhance academic support in collaboration with other student, staff, and faculty success initiatives supported by the Office of the Provost.

Tupua is eager to serve in her new role and shares, “I am honored to be able to serve as the inaugural Associate Director of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Initiatives here at CSULB. It truly takes a village…to ensure [students] thrive and succeed in all aspects of life.”

Tupua assumes her new role having graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies. There she found her passion of serving marginalized communities in education. She recently graduated from Northeastern State University with a Master of Business Administration. Through the CSU AANHPI Student Achievement Program and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) designation, Tupua will catalyze the work happening on campus to better serve the AANHPI staff, faculty, and students at CSULB.

“While the AANHPI community is rich in diverse identities and cultural histories, we are united by a shared collectivistic spirit. Our strength lies in the power of our community members, and it is vital that we come together to support, uplift, and empower one another,” says Tupua.

CSULB is eager to continue elevating the identities and success of all our AANHPI students at The Beach under Tupua’s leadership.
