CLA Appoints New Associate Dean of Enrollment Management & Student Success
Seiji Steimetz, Ph.D., has been named the new College of Liberal Arts (CLA) Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Success.
Having served as the interim Associate Dean for the last year, Steimetz' permanent appointment ensures that the CLA will remain continuously focused on promoting student success and economic development within the local community.
His appointment, announced by CLA Dean Deb Thien, marks a new and exciting chapter for CLA. "I am delighted to announce that Dr. Seiji Steimetz has accepted the position of Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Success," says Dean Thien.
During his interim appointment, Steimetz has lead the charge on improving economic conditions for students who are traditionally from underserved populations.
"Recently, Dr. Steimetz served as a Member of Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson’s “100-Day Plan” Transition Team (Economic Development Task Force). His efforts to promote economic development in the region and to improve the economic conditions of its traditionally underserved populations have earned him Centro CHA’s Nuestra Imagen Excellence Award and Mayor Robert Garcia’s Go Long Beach Award," says Dean Thien.
Dr. Steimetz earned his bachelor’s degree and an MA in Economics from San Jose State University, and earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Irvine. He joined the faculty at CSULB in 2005 and was promoted to Professor in 2016. Additionally, Dr. Steimetz also served as Director of CLA’s Office of Economic Research from 2016-2022.
Steimetz greatly looks forward to continuing his contributions to the campus' student-success efforts and serving the faculty, staff, and students of the College of Liberal Arts.
