13 CSULB Students Named 2022-23 Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Scholars
The Division of Academic Affairs is pleased that 13 Cal State University, Long Beach students were named recipients of the prestigious Sally Casanova California Pre-Doctoral Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year.
Out of 186 student applications and among 76 other scholars throughout the state, 13 of our exemplary Beach students were selected for this opportunity by the California Pre-Doctoral Program Advisory Committee. Each scholar will receive $3,000 to explore and prepare for doctoral programs in their respective fields. The scholarship helps to finance travel, course materials, and software expenses, as well as application and entrance examination fees. Additionally, Sally Casanova Scholars can attend a funded summer research experience at a doctoral-granting institution of their choice.
Throughout the year, scholarship recipients work closely alongside a selected faculty mentor as they prepare for their doctoral studies. “The Sally Casanova California Pre-Doctoral Scholarship is an amazing opportunity for students to receive not only financial support as they transition to graduate study, but also mentorship to help ease and support that transition,” says Dr. Jody Cormack, CSULB Vice Provost of Academic Programs and Dean of Graduate Studies.
Over the past 33 years, the California Pre-Doctoral Program has granted more than 2,400 scholarships, with 226 of these scholars being selected from Cal State Long Beach. Dr. Cormack continues to note “Many of our scholars go on to doctoral programs, and eventually faculty positions. We are so pleased that we have so many scholarships awarded for the 2022-23 academic year. This serves as a testament to our highly accomplished students and mentors.”
