Tacos in the Rain, Tequilas at the Pub - Tracing the Rise of Mexican Food in Ireland

Tacos in the rain, tequilas at the pub, mariachis in Dublin…what is behind the current wave of Mexican food and culture in Ireland?
Come learn about how and why Mexican food has crossed the Atlantic and taken hold on the Emerald Isle, and what these cultural encounters teach us about migration, citizenship, and transatlantic relations between Mexico, the US border region, and modern Ireland.
Lecture by Dr. Catherine Leen from the Hispanic Studies Dept. at Trinity College Dublin, followed by a conversation with Dr. Melissa Hidalgo, WGSS lecturer and author of the first article about Mexican food in Ireland for L.A. Taco in 2022.
Dr. Leen and Dr. Hidalgo have also co-written an article, "Why is Mexican food so popular in Ireland?" for the Irish publication, RTE Brainstorm, and co-produced a 2023 podcast, From Potatoes to Tacos: How Mexican Food is Making Waves in Ireland, which was funded by the Irish Fulbright Alumni Association.
