Cohorted Beach XPerience
Our learning communities are designed to support students in all aspects of their first-year journey — from academic success in the classroom to personal success in their social and professional lives!
For students that are part of a college-specific cohort, one way that Beach XP provides this holistic approach is through the “Activity Hour” – dedicated time blocks embedded into students’ schedules for in-person workshops, activities, and resources. These diverse activity offerings are tailored to support students’ growth in social skills, academic excellence and personal development, so they can thrive at CSULB during their entire educational journey here.

In collaboration with colleges, our campus partners from across the university bring these engaging workshops right to students, focusing on:
- Student Engagement: Connecting students with peers to build a supportive network
- Academic Resources: Providing tools and guidance to help students excel in their studies
- Personal Development: Enhancing personal and professional skills
Each college has its own unique approach to delivering these valuable experiences, ensuring that every student finds the support they need to thrive.
These activities might be designated on a Beach XP student’s schedule in one or a combination of the following modalities:
- ES 100A - Students can join activities organized by their college coordinators once or twice a week, conveniently scheduled in between classes.
- First-Year Experience (FYE) Course - Students will enroll in a course for credit offered by the college and the instructor will embed activities that help support course learning outcomes.
