Yoshimura Scholarship

In honor of Juli!

We are pleased to announce the new Yoshimura Scholarship for ASLD students, created by a generous gift from Dan and Eileen Yoshimura in memory of their daughter Julianne. Her family writes, "Julianne (Juli) Yoshimura graduated from CSULB in 2020 with a BA in Psychology and a Minor in American Sign Language Linguistics and Deaf Cultures (ASLD). Graduating from college was a huge milestone for Juli. Having ADHD and a disability in Mathematics, Juli struggled academically and socially, often being bullied or mistaken as lazy and forgetful. With the grace of God, Juli pushed through and developed into a sensitive, loving and caring individual, always for the underdog. ASL provided her with the ability to ensure even a deaf or hard of hearing person would not be left out. In 2020 Juli was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, which cut short her life in 2023 and plans to pursue a Master’s degree, as well as marriage to her soulmate Joey whom she met in an ASL class. This scholarship is just another way of Juli helping someone along the way." - Juli's Parents, Dan and Eileen Yoshimura
