Support for CSULB Community
Dear CSULB Community:
Last week, Chancellor García affirmed for the California State University community our continued commitment to uphold our core values, to honor our purpose, and to fulfill our mission. As she said, "this is my responsibility – my obligation – to you, to our mission, and most importantly, to our current and future students. I will meet that obligation. Indeed, we will meet that obligation together."
My message, today, is to reiterate and amplify our commitment to all our students and employees whatever their identities. I echo the words of California’s Attorney General, Rob Bonta, that "all individuals, regardless of who they are or who they love, deserve to be recognized and treated equally." That remains true at CSULB as well. Specifically, on our campus we do not tolerate harassment and discrimination based on gender identity, and we support access to gender-affirming healthcare services.
Here at CSULB, these rights are reflected in the policies overseen by our Office of Equity and Compliance – a terrific resource for all CSULB students, faculty & staff. (See this and other resources below.)
Along with the Chancellor’s Office, and in consultation with the Office of General Counsel, we will continue to monitor the latest news out of Washington, D.C. We will continue to investigate ways to stand behind and uplift our core values and our purpose, to ensure that we can continue with our mission to provide the best education possible for our students. And we will continue to support our staff and faculty so that they can help with that mission.
Again, in the words of our chancellor: "The CSU will never abandon its mission. Our students deserve it. Our core values demand it." I couldn’t agree more!
Go Beach!
