Gil Anidjar- On the Sovereignty of Mothers: The Political as Maternal

The Department of History, Department of Romance, German, Russian Languages and Literatures, Department of Philosophy, Comparative World Literature Program, South Asian Studies Minor, and the College of Liberal Arts Scholarly Intersections Program will present a lecture by Gil Anidjar, Professor at Columbia University, on his new book On the Sovereignty of Mothers: The Political as Maternal. Anidjar explores the maternal as central to political thought, offering fresh insights into slavery, sovereignty, and the social contract through feminist, Black, and psychoanalytic lenses.
