Enforcement Actions on Campus
Particularly as federal immigration policies evolve, many campus community members are concerned that representatives and officers from U.S. immigration enforcement agencies may visit university campuses across the country. While we have no knowledge of any planned visit to our campus, we offer this website as a helpful resource.
The university does not share information about immigration status, religion, nationality, ethnicity or other personal information about individual students or employees with anyone, including law enforcement authorities, without the student’s or employee’s permission, unless presented with a judicially issued warrant, court order, subpoena, or other legally binding requirement.
Immigration enforcement is the responsibility of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, not the university. Consistent with the approach of law enforcement agencies in California, our University Police department does not inquire about immigration status in the normal course of its duties.
This approach is codified in both California law and the CSU’s Policy 414.
If you are an employee on campus, please familiarize yourself with steps to take if you or a colleague are approached by federal law enforcement on campus:
Inform the officer that you are not obstructing their process, but that you do not have the authority to respond to their request.
Direct the officer to Administration and Finance in Brotman Hall 320. Please make sure to report the interaction to your supervisor, director, AVP or dean.
If the officer does not accept the referral, contact your supervisor, director, AVP or dean. If you are unable to resolve the matter, contact University Police at 562-985-4101.
