Some Things Change. Others Do Not.

Dear Beach Community:

As with every national election, we can expect changes in policies and priorities as one political party replaces another. These are feared by some and welcomed by others.
 
On our campus, our commitment to providing safe and secure environments for every faculty and staff member and every student to show and celebrate their full identities is unwavering. We strive to create an environment of caring and belonging where everyone can learn, work, and feel empowered regardless of ethnicity, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or immigration status. This will continue today and into the future.
 
I am very concerned about the spate of recent racist text messages that are appearing across the country, including on the nation’s campus communities. Racism has no place at The Beach.
 
We will continue providing services and spaces for all historically marginalized people. These include, but are not limited to, our Basic Needs Program, Dream Success Center, and centers that promote belonging and inclusion.
 
Our commitment to being a place where ALL students can thrive continues, as exemplified by our multiple learning communities, career development services, comprehensive wellness services, paid internship programs, and support for academic, social, and personal growth.
 
Our state and federal advocacy efforts also continue. These are directed toward increased Pell Grants at the federal level and increased state support for our operating budget.
 
As with other dramatic world and national events, inevitably and thankfully we house many divergent opinions and experiences. Please treat each other with civility and compassion. As “OneBeach,” we are a force for good.
