CLA Promotes Degree Exploration and Global Languages at The Beach
The College of Liberal Arts recently hosted two outreach events to encourage degree exploration among students across The Beach.
The first event was the third annual CLA Day, held Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the upper quad. More than 60 CLA clubs and departments were represented, offering music, snacks, and giveaways for all attendees. Originally created by CLA ASI senators, the college now hosts the event each fall to unite the CLA community and give students a chance to explore its range of clubs and programs. CLA Dean Deb Thien expressed her excitement, stating, “I was filled with pride and inspiration at CLA Day yesterday. Over 60 College of Liberal Arts at CSULB programs and student clubs took over the Upper Quad to showcase and celebrate all that makes the CLA great.”
The college hopes to continue the tradition of CLA Day to provide students with opportunities to connect with a wide array of interests, careers, degrees, and programs within the college. CLA also introduced its inaugural Global Languages Day on Wednesday, Oct. 23. This new event allowed students to learn about CLA majors, minors, certificates, and courses in nearly 20 languages, including Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Arabic, American Sign Language, and Hindi-Urdu. The college also shared information about Education Abroad opportunities, along with giveaways for attendees.
Together, these two events aimed to serve CSULB students by proactively highlighting the extensive offerings of the university’s largest college. CLA Day and Global Languages Day reinforce our Beach 2030 commitments to expand access and promote intellectual achievement by advancing regional and global engagement.
