Emeritus Professor (2005), Dr Roland E. Bush, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, circa 1941. He passed away in January 2017 after a brief illness.

Dr. Bush taught in the Department of Comparative Literature for 36 years, starting in 1969. He earned a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Southern California. His scholarly and teaching interests included Latin American and Caribbean Literature, African and African American Literature,  Postcolonial Literature, Surrealism, Jazz, and mythology. He contributed to the creation of courses that are still part of the CWL curriculum, such as  “Film and Novel in Society” and “Art and Literature.” For years, Dr Bush accompanied students to the annual Zora Neale Hurston conference in Baltimore, where they gave talks and won prizes. Some of them became Professors. He was a long-time Book Review Editor for the journal Caribbean Studies. Upon retirement, he served as Grand Marshall for the College of Liberal Arts Commencement ceremony. Dr Roland Bush is truly missed by students and colleagues alike.
