Minor

The History Minor is an 18-unit program that teaches students how to understand the present by studying the past yet allows students flexibility to pursue programs in other departments and colleges. The study of history prepares students in critical thinking, problem solving, cultural literacy, and communication. Skills learned in history courses include learning how to gather and evaluate evidence, reach conclusions based on independent thinking, and analyze and explain knowledge through written and oral communication. This is a skillset that translates to various career opportunities in media, journalism, politics, business, librarianships, foundation work, technology, literature, entertainment, and education. 

General Minor in History

A minimum of 18 units structured by:

1. Lower Division: A minimum of 6 units. 3 units must come from either HIST 111 OR HIST 131 AND either HIST 112 OR HIST 132.
2. Upper Division: A minimum of 12 units, divided equally between two separate fields of concentration (e.g., 6 units in Asian history, 6 units in Modern European history).
