I'm proud to say that I'm a first generation college graduate from California State University Long Beach. When I visited the school, I was drawn to the peaceful environment and the nationally recognized MSW program. I was also looking for a school that wasn't too fast-paced, coming from up north. During my time at Long Beach State, I was supported by faculty like Dr. John Oliver, Julie O'Donnell, and Ralph Hertado. They provided mentoring and invited me to social events, which was especially helpful since I had relocated to Long Beach by myself. I was also part of the admissions committee and presented at orientations for new students. My education gave me a well-rounded perspective and taught me how to think, process, and lead. My favorite memory was graduation day, which was a major achievement for me. I'm thankful for the opportunity to apply for a Calex stipend, which paid for my education and allowed me to work in the county for two years, after which my loan was forgiven. I'm grateful for the investment the faculty made in me, as it has helped me get to where I am today. My family was also proud to attend my graduation.
