James Preston '69

My time at Long Beach State was an incredible experience that I will never forget. I was involved in many clubs and organizations, including Blue Key, the Pros crew team, and the General Owners Program. I was also Chief Justice of the AS Judiciary, and at the end of the year, I was given a gavel with a plaque that said 'James R. Preston, Chief Justice, AS Judiciary' as a reward for my hard work. I also had the opportunity to meet Bill Sids, who was the road manager for the Doors Rock Group, and even got to interview Jim Morrison. I made lifelong friends and even found my wife while I was there. I remember the sense of moral certitude that we had, and I was even involved in a protest for an art student who was denied his master's degree. I am so grateful for the memories I made at Long Beach State, and I am happy to share my story and audio as part of the Oral History Project.
