Mission Statement

Our mission is to teach students to be linguists with an understanding of the inherent connections between language and culture.  Depending on the emphasis chosen, we train our students to become culturally sensitive, ethical linguists who specialize in either ASL Linguistics and Deaf Cultures or in ASL-English Interpreting.  Our students will graduate with the finest skills they can achieve in a four-year degree program.  Our goal is to prepare our students for a career working as ASL-English Interpreters (BA Option), or to use their strong foundation in Signed Language linguistics and Deaf Cultures to further their professional aspirations and/or future graduate studies (BA and Minor).
