This student-led session will provide participants with an overview of the student advocacy that has taken place in the past decade, the resources that have been established, and the goals they wish to accomplish. Through group discussion, participants will learn how student voice is crucial in informing best practices. Presenters will provide details on how other campuses can replicate similar programs and resources at their respective institutions.

During the early 1990s, undocumented students seeking access to California colleges had to apply as Leticia A. This presentation will discuss how undocumented students, during the early 1990's, sought access to California higher educational institutions. A quick overview of the ruling will be covered, and the panelists, Nymia Luque and Guillermo Acevedo will share first-hand their experiences of being Leticia A. students and navigating college during a time when services for undocumented students were not in place. Still, they prevailed in identifying a community of support.

The SFSU Dream Resource Center and Improving Dreams, Equity, Access, and Success (I.D.E.A.S.) proudly organized the inaugural "Rise Beyond Borders: Undocumented Student Month of Action." This month-long series featured a variety of events designed for students and allies. The series’ goal was to celebrate and highlight undocumented students’ experiences. In this presentation, we will be fostering a dialogue on the month-long planning, the goals, challenges, outcomes, collaborative efforts, and the impact these gatherings had on the community at large. SFSU student leaders from I.D.E.A.S. will also share their perspective and how they were able to support the month-long series.

We will cover domestic and international travel, as well as a "know your rights" around DUIs, marijuana, and other activities that may impact your DACA.

This panel will engage in a discussion centered around navigating higher education as undocumented people living in the United States. By sharing their experiencias, the panelists shed light on the struggles undocumented people encounter when pursuing a higher education degree(s), often exacerbated by the challenges that undocumented people face daily. As DACAmented and non-DACAmented students, the panelists bring forth a range of similar and unique experiences that have shaped their educational journeys. This panel not only provides a space for conversation to discuss the struggles of obtaining higher education as undocumented people but also serves as a call for allies to unite and join in support of our cause.
