What fears or anxieties did you have about going to college?

A fear/anxiety I had going to college as a first-generation student was, this idea that I wasn’t “prepared” enough. Since I was the first in my family to go to college, I thought I was never going to easily figure things out. That was so not true! Yes I struggled picking my classes, sending out my transcripts, or forming a resume. But all new upcoming students struggle with those things but you always find the support needed to aid you. Just like Genexel, who helped me my freshman year.

Some advice I would give to a first-generation student would be to not be afraid to join a school club. Also, take advantage of free stuff at school! Once in a while you will see tents stationed around school. Listen to their organizations presentation, they might help you learn something new. Take a free item if they offer it as a Bonus :)

In the future, I would love to become a Registered Nurse in Pediatrics! I love kids so I think I would love that career too. I am currently taking my Teas which is an entrance exam for nursing school. Good luck to me!

When I go to the beach, I like to collect shells and make ocean jewelry. I saw videos about it on TikTok and thought it was pretty cool. In my free time, I like watching anime or hanging out with family/friends.

Other than being a Genexcel Peer Mentor, I work for Housing and Residential Life as a Desk Assistant.
