BEACH Women in Engineering Conference
Designed to tackle barriers to entry for female engineers, over 150 students attended the third-ever BEACH Women in Engineering Conference on Saturday, April 29. By connecting future engineers with women who've trailblazed in the profession, it provided an opportunity to receive coaching, network and celebrate achievements.
“Engineering is a problem-solving profession, and representation matter,” said Dean Jinny Rhee. “Diverse perspectives and lived experiences influence which problems get solved and which solutions are implemented. The innovation that rises from diverse teams benefit society."
It’s estimated that nearly 40 percent of women who obtain engineering degrees leave the field or never enter the profession. As the 5th largest producer of engineers in California, CSULB hopes to combat that by fostering a diverse and inclusive engineering community. The event is part of the 100+ Women Strong initiative, which aims to increase the number of female engineers on campus to an equitable representation of 50 percent.
