- COE Hosts Final Graduation Ceremony for Antelope Valley Engineering Program - The College of Engineering hosted the final graduation ceremony of the Antelope Valley Engineering Program (AVEP) on Dec. 12. AVEP was a degree completion program for mechanical and electrical engineering at a satellite location in Lancaster. Since launching in 2011, AVEP has graduated 256 students at a 90% graduation rate.
- Dr. Shadnaz Asgari Recognized with 2 Biotechnology Awards - Dr. Shadnaz Asgari, professor of biomedical engineering and computer engineering and computer science, was awarded the 2025 CSU Biotech Faculty Award and CSU Biotech Andreoli Faculty Service Award. Asgari was recognized during the 37th annual CSU Biotechnology Symposium, held Jan. 9-11.
- Laurie Huning Provides Vital Context to the LA Wildfires - Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management Associate Professor Laurie Huning spoke to news outlets about the impact of climate change and water resources, providing vital context to the LA wildfires.
- Dr. Roudi Roy Appointed Interim Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Research - The College of Health and Human Services is pleased to announce that Dr. Roudi Roy, Professor of Child Development and Family Studies in the Dept. of Family and Consumer Sciences, has been appointed the Interim Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Research. Dr. Roy officially started her new role on January 21, 2025.

- Dr. Rashida Crutchfield Honored as Wang Family Excellence Award Winner - The College of Health and Human Services is proud to congratulate our own Dr. Rashida Crutchfield, Professor in the School of Social Work, for being named a recipient of the Wang Family Excellence Award for Outstanding Faculty Service. The Wang Family Excellence Awards recognizes four faculty members and one staff member in the CSU system who have shown extraordinary commitment and dedication to their respective universities. Their activities advance the system’s mission, contribute to student success, and enhance the CSU’s excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.
- CSULB Wildfire Response Research Team Aims to Strengthen Fire Response Strategies - CSULB's Wildfire Response Research team, led by experts from the Geography Department's Geo-SpACE Lab and ESA program, will explore community-driven fire resilience through focus groups, community brigade impact, and "stay and defend" behaviors. Their studies aim to strengthen fire response strategies and guide future policy.
- CNSM Student Researchers Present at Odyssey STEM Academy - In December, several of our student researchers presented at Odyssey STEM Academy, talking to the students about the research out of the Mammal Lab and Marine Ecology Evolution and Physiology Lab, as well as what got them into science and what it's like to be a researcher at CSULB!
- Leaders in Athletics Score Dream Careers with Sport Management Program - The Sport Management program at CSULB is a transformative pathway for students and alumni to enter dynamic careers in the athletics industry. From scoring internships with teams like the L.A. Clippers and Ontario Reign to earning leadership positions in student athletics, these young professionals have gained the real-world skills, invaluable connections, and sense of community that are lifting them towards their goals.
- Dean Dill and Kari Darby to Present at the 2025 National Social Mobility Symposium - Dean Elizabeth Dill and Faculty Librarian Kari Darby will present their poster, “Bridging the Gap: How CSULB’s University Library Advances Social Mobility for Future Scholars,” at the 2025 National Social Mobility Symposium in February at CSU San Marcos.
- Dean Elizabeth Dill has been selected to serve on the MLIS Program Advisory Board for Indiana University.
- CSULB Welcomes about 700 Incoming Graduate Students for Spring Admission - CSULB has approximately 40 graduate programs that admit new students for the Spring semester. For Spring 2025, our university received 2,160 graduate applications, and we welcomed 700 new graduate students. Faculty and staff are excited to support each graduate student’s journey at the Beach!
- Celebrating our Spring 2025 Graduate Fellow Winners - With funds raised from URD, Graduate Studies awarded Julie Nguyen (Master of Public Health) and Karley Valdez Lopez (MA of Psychological Research) for the prestigious Graduate Equity Fellowship for the Spring 2025 semester. The fellowship covers one semester of tuition for the Spring 2025 year.
- CSULB Professor Dr. Rashida Crutchfield Honored with Wang Family Excellence Award - Social work professor Rashida Crutchfield, well-known for her pathbreaking research exposing the realities of college students living with homelessness and food insecurity, has received new recognition for her service – the prestigious Wang Family Excellence Award.
