Jake Wilson

Jake Wilson, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Sociology at California State University, Long Beach.  

Professor Wilson's research explores the ways racism and labor exploitation intersect. His research examines workers’ movements, unions, workers’ rights, the impact of surveillance and automation on work and labor, and the degradation of working conditions especially within the global logistics industry (i.e. ports, warehouses, trucks, shipping) around the world. His current research examines the impact of e-commerce on work, labor, and unions in warehousing, parcel delivery, and shipping. 

Professor Wilson has written or co-written several books including:  

“The Cost of Free Shipping: Amazon in the Global Economy.” 

“Choke Points: Logistics Workers Disrupting the Global Supply Chain.” 

“Solidarity Forever? Race, Gender, and Unionism in the Ports of Southern California.” 

“Getting the Goods: Ports, Labor, and the Logistics Revolution.” 

Professor Wilson holds a Ph.D., and master’s in sociology from the University of California, Riverside. He earned his bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) in conservation and resource studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
