Four-Year Option - Freshmen Admitted Fall 2023

In order to participate in the Four-Year Beach Pledge Program, first-time students must meet certain requirements and sign an electronic Beach Pledge agreement.

Participating students must:

  • Pursue an eligible major (from the majors listed below), and meet one of the following requirements:
    • Was admitted directly to the eligible pre-major/major.
    • Was admitted Undeclared and is not pursuing an ineligible pre-major/major.
  • Maintain a minimum CSULB CUM GPA of 3.00, Major GPA of 2.50.  You also may not be on academic warning (formerly academic probation) any semester (GPA's will be verified at the end of each Fall and Spring term).
  • Earn at least 30 baccalaureate units each academic year toward graduation in approved major.
    • Unit Load: Students must enroll in a minimum of 15 units per semester. However, if students wish to enroll in less than 15 units per semester, students must take winter or summer session courses in order to earn the required units within the academic year.
      (Courses numbered 001-099 are excluded from the 30 required baccalaureate units, e.g. CHEM 90, MATH 92, 94, 95, STAT 90, & S/I 60)
    • Students can include previously earned units towards their 30 baccalaureate units (e.g. AP, IB, CLEP, & transfer credit; note that a maximum of 70 Community College units can count towards the required benchmarks below).
    • Students must meet 30 baccalaureate unit benchmarks by the end of each Summer term.
      • Freshmen meet 30 units by the end of their first Summer term.
      • Sophomores meet 60 units by the end of their second Summer term.
      • Juniors meet 90 units by the end of their third Summer term.
      • (Seniors should graduate by the end of their fourth Spring Semester).
  • Each semester, students will submit their personalized academic plan (eg. roadmap, educational plan, Degree Planner, etc.), to their Beach Pledge advisor in order to ensure they are on track.
  • Enroll in required courses during the priority registration period.
    • Ensure all holds are released before priority registration begins.
    • Register within 24 hours of registration appointment, if not, student assumes full responsibility for any potential issues that may delay their graduation.
    • Do not waitlist courses.
    • Pay tuition and fees by the designated date.

Eligibility for Other Programs:

  • If you are planning to participate in the University Honors Program and/or NCAA Athletics, eligibility in such programs supersedes participation in the Beach Pledge Program.

Undeclared students must pursue an eligible major listed above to participate in the Beach Pledge Program.
