Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2022

News and Updates

Dear Campus Community, 

Congratulations to our dedicated faculty members and students who were recently honored at the University Achievement Awardsluncheon on April 13th at The Pointe! My sincere thanks to Vice Provost Dhushy Sathianathan who hosted the event for 21 honorees, their colleagues and guests.

And to all of the amazing winners, I thank you for your talents, your passion and your focus on bringing your “A” game to The Beach every day in every way. The standard of excellence you’ve set in your disciplines is having (and will have) a ripple effect on the students’ lives you have touched and on the community as a whole.

And as we continue to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration Month at The Beach, I encourage everyone to take advantage of the remaining (virtual and live) events that are taking place. It’s a wonderful opportunity to appreciate our cultural richness:

I’d also like to congratulate Dr. Barbara Kim, professor and chair of the Asian and Asian American Studies Department, and Associate Professor Dr. Varisa Patraporn of the Department of Sociology, for seeing a need and filling it. The two are at the helm of Project Resilience, a new initiative launching this spring to address wellness and mental health issues among AAPI students at The Beach as well as career, financial and academic support. The project was made possible by a five-year, $1.46 million AANAPISI grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

What I continue to appreciate and love about The Beach is our vibrant diversity: Diversity of culture, backgrounds, languages, thoughts, ideas, and talents.

Here’s to our continued embrace and celebration of the rich tapestry that is such an integral part of our Beach Spirit.

2022 University Achievement Awards

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2022 University Achievement Awards. Their remarkable efforts are outstanding examples of the exceptional faculty at The Beach! For a full list of winners, click here.

Transcripts Posted by End of June 
Official grades and degrees will be posted towards the end of June. To order official transcripts, visit MyCSULB Student Center and in the ‘Other Academics’ drop-down menu, click on ‘Transcript: Official.’ Students may also seek free enrollment verification and other certifications using the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) tile in SSO. 
 
The Fall 2022 Schedule of Classes is now online as well as information for students regarding registration.
 

 

BeachBoard to Canvas Transition Update 
Our transition from BeachBoard to Canvas is well underway! Over the next year, ATS will be offering workshops and programs to help faculty and students prepare. Visit Canvas at the Beach for the latest details. 
 
What You Can Do Now 
Here are some options faculty can take advantage of now to prepare for Fall 2023: 
 

  • Join the Fall 2022 Canvas Pilot Program - Get training in the summer and teach with Canvas this Fall! Complete our INTEREST FORM. 

  • View "Canvas Basics" workshop recordings - Watch our “Canvas Basics” Spring workshop series. Summer workshop dates will be posted soon! 

  • Request a Sandbox - Complete our INTEREST FORM to request a Sandbox. A sandbox course allows you to experiment and "play" with the features of Canvas without concern for deconstructing your course content.  

  • Request a Development (DEV) Shell - Complete our Canvas Development Shell Request Form to request a DEV shell. A development shell is a Canvas course that will be used for building a specific course you will teach within Canvas. This allows you to prepare materials for any course before it is scheduled for migration. 

 
Faculty are invited to apply for this stipend-based professional development program that will guide them in implementing accessibility best practices in a Canvas course and be a resource for colleagues, colleges, and departments.  
 
Faculty who are already familiar with the Canvas LMS are encouraged to apply. The registration deadline is Friday, April 22. 
 
CSULB faculty can receive the booster through Long Beach Health and Human Services on Monday / Wednesday 11:00 am - 3:00 pm adjacent to the USU bookstore or at a multitude of places off campus.

COVID-19 - Prescreen

Students, faculty, and staff must complete a pre-arrival health screening questionnaire each day before coming to campus. The online questionnaire is available on the single sign-on site.

Update Regarding Face Coverings

As of March 14, 2022, wearing masks will be optional in most campus settings for individuals who are fully vaccinated. Exceptions to these indoor mask-optional policy include:

  • Regardless of vaccination status, masks are required in classrooms and labs, the Student Health Center, childcare centers, public transit, small offices, and conference rooms.

  • Individuals who are not fully vaccinated.

  • Masks will continue to be required when receiving one-on-one, in-person, close-contact services.

New first-year, transfer, and graduate students are eligible for technology resources to support your success. These devices are yours to use, for free, through the completion of your degree.

The California Community Colleges are hosting the Black Student Success Week on April 25-29, 2022.
You can register here for a week of informative, virtual events focused on considerations and interventions to address equity for Black students in higher education.
 

Week of Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

The Week of Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity (RSCA) 2nd annual event is in full swing from April 18 - 22, 2022. This event will focus on highlighting some of the amazing work currently being done across the CSULB campus by students, staff, and faculty. We hope to show the immense value and importance that the projects have not only on the campus but also within local communities. There will be plenty of opportunities to meet with presenters, have dialogues regarding various scientific and social topics, and network with members from various disciplines across CSULB. 

CSULB and the Week of RSCA encourages everyone to not only engage with the sessions that are related to their own disciplines but also attend and engage with those that are outside of their own disciplines. To register, click the following link: /rsca/register.
