Stop Motion Animation Class
In this 3 hour workshop, Film & Electronic Arts Department Alums Audrey Sutton & Paula Kiley share conceptual ideas about stop motion animated films and demonstrate creative and technical strategies for making them. Participants will complete short tests using the FREE Stop Motion Studio app on their Smart Phones, as well as more detailed instruction using Adobe Premiere Pro. Prior experience with Premiere is required.

Paula Kiley is a multimedia journalist and documentary filmmaker interested in producing character-driven digital stories with a social justice and equity lens. Her stories on arts and culture, education and food equity have appeared in KCET, EdSource, VoiceWaves, the Daily Forty-Niner and DIG Magazine. She graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a bachelor's in journalism and a minor in film.
Audrey Sutton is a free-lance stop-motion animator and video editor. Since graduating from the Creative Non-Fiction Program at CSULB in 2021, Audrey has worked as a full-time video editor for "StyleLikeU", a multi-media platform that creates docu-style videos centering radical self-acceptance. Audrey and Paula Kiley's stop-motion animation short film "Dancing with Death" was selected to be screened at the Newport Film Festival and since has been hired to animate for broadcasted content. Audrey is driven to continue to explore how stop-motion animation and non-fiction video can inspire and empower the creator and viewer.
