Tasha W. Hunter
Tasha holds and MFA from Chapman University’s Dodge College Conservatory of Film and Media Arts with a focus on Producing. She received her BA from University of California, Los Angeles, with a concentration in Documentary Film Production.
Tasha W. Hunter is a writer and producer. Because of her affinity for research and writing, she studied Journalism at Long Beach City College where she served as the copy editor of The Viking for many years. Her high hopes of becoming a broadcast journalism evolved into her desire to see her words and visions on the big screen and she made the decision to study film. She was accepted into UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television where she focused on Documentary Production, and was excited to capture and share people’s stories. It was at UCLA where she began to incorporate her love for culture, music and international cinema into her work. Traveling to Cuba serval times and studying abroad in Salvador Bahia, Brazil expanded her curiosity and quest to learn more the connectedness of the African Diaspora. At UCLA, she won an award and scholarship from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for a documentary about her mentor filmmaker and innovator, Ben Caldwell called, Silent Giant. Weaving cinema, religion, music/arts, culture and personal stories into her practice has laid a strong foundation for all her passion and work.
While earning her Master’s Degree from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts where she studied Film and Television Producing, she produced many projects of various genres. One of which was a Location Film project that was filmed in Cameroon, West Africa, that she co-produced and co-directed and was featured on KCET and PBS television. This would be her first of many trips to the Africa.
Tasha W. Hunter has worked in a variety of capacities internationally from studio projects to independent projects, to television, award shows, short films and music videos. Some of which includes B.E.T., Cossette Productions/Jesse Collins Productions, Shelby Stone Productions, Discovery Channel, Alcon Entertainment, and many more. Currently she is writing and producing a passion project, and is also helping other creatives with production management, script and character development.
She is very active in the arts and cultural community and in 2018 was appointed by Long Beach Mayor, Dr. Robert Garcia to serves as a Cultural Heritage Commissioner, was the two-term president of the Arts Council for Long Beach (2016-2019), and is currently the president of the new African American Cultural Center of Long Beach, a nonprofit organization that began in 2019 that focuses on Black art, culture and education in Long Beach and beyond.
Tasha is the co-founder of Wiggins Hunter Cultural Consulting Group and Words2Visions Entertainment and has been professionally teaching since 2005. She began teaching at CSULB in the Spring of 2020 and is a co-chair of the Inclusivity Across All Media (I.A.A.M.) Committee and is a new member of the Campus Climate Committee.
